Living the Startup Life with Lisa Hom

Season 4, Episode 2

S4 E2 show [DISPLAY_ULTIMATE_PLUS] Innovation is the key to the great successes of our time. We aren’t inventing as much as we are making changes in something established; evolving products, experiences and relationships. Think Uber, AirBnB, and a myriad of other apps. The trick is innovating in a way that has impact and makes a profound difference in the way we live and behave. And this is exactly what my next guest is doing. Welcome to episode 2 of the #mumboss podcast a show dedicated to enhancing your super mama powers. I’m your host Rachel Maskell and today’s guest is Lisa Hom, founder and creator of Parasol, products for babies and the whole family, and a mama of 3. You’ll hear more in the show, but I think Lisa’s mission and approach to her work can open up doors for others. It can help us reimagine ways of doing business and change how we interact with products in our everyday lives. Expect to learn about launching a business that you're passionate about, how our work impacts our relationships in the office and out, and why speaking with the community can help to pivot when it really matters.

What we cover:

  • Integrating business and entrepreneurialism with kids
  • Building the right relationship with manufacturers
  • A look into the homelife of a startup CEO
  • Using the community to build a product

The wipes are fabulous. I’ve been using them the last few weeks while on a road trip because you know how messy those car rides can be! Stay tuned next week for episode 3 of Season 4. We’ll be talking about how our kids impact our decisions in business and how they make us better at what we do with Latham Thomas. Thank you so much for listening. About this episode

Meet the Guest

Before founding Parasol, Lisa built a career around her obsession with product. Through her buying and merchandising roles at Banana Republic, Old Navy, and Mervyns, she gained an appreciation for all the detailed decisions that go into designing and manufacturing a product. After transitioning to the startup world, Lisa realized how much more impact she could make by creating innovative and inspiring product from scratch. At Kiwi Crate, Lisa led the product design team to develop new creative STEM experiences for kids in their monthly subscription crates. Parasol was an opportunity for Lisa to take things even further in a category that she is passionate about. She is a mom of three kids and has seen her share of baby and family products. She is part of a generation of parents who are raising their families very differently - she travels with her kids, she shares her work and her passions with them. People, especially parents, are demanding a sense of experience, style, and luxury in the products they consume. No brand really understood that and she felt like there was a gap that wasn't being addressed. Parasol is taking a bold approach to the modern family. parasolco.com Parasol on Facebook Parasol on Twitter Parasol on Instagram Parasol on Pinterest Bed music from Podington Bear.
