Season 2, Episode 7

[DISPLAY_ULTIMATE_PLUS]
When I was working on this show I kept thinking about how I can get it out to as many mamas and women as possible. It’s incredibly powerful and timely. This show is longer than most but I couldn’t bring myself to edit much out...we need to hear this. It’s not just about mom guilt but about trusting ourselves and our intuitive nature, how we’ve strayed from that and how we can get it back.
I’m your host Rachel Maskell and in today’s show I bring on the very brilliant Kelly Brogan MD to discuss a top of mind question for most of us...
Dr. Kelly Brogan is a Manhattan-based holistic women’s health psychiatrist, author of the book, A Mind of Your Own, and co-editor of the landmark textbook, Integrative Therapies for Depression. She completed her psychiatric training and fellowship at NYU Medical Center after graduating from Cornell University Medical College, and has a B.S. from MIT in Systems Neuroscience. She is board certified in psychiatry, psychosomatic medicine, and integrative holistic medicine, and is specialized in a root-cause resolution approach to psychiatric syndromes and symptoms. And...she is a mother of two.
Topics we cover:
- The ancestral framework of mom guilt
- The dance of mom guilt and depression
- Myths of depression
- How healing our bodies heals the world
- Tools to reconnect with our intuition and wisdom
Was your mind blown? Mine was. So many things Dr Brogan shared triggered more questions, more awareness and more desire to put myself as a priority. There is no shortage of martyrdom in motherhood but there are plenty of openings for new examples for who and what a mother can be. What feels right to you? What’s calling you and what wisdom does the voices shroud in mom guilt have to offer?

A little about the book:
Depression is not a disease. It’s a symptom.
Recent years have seen a shocking increase in antidepressant use the world over, with 1 in 4 women starting their day with medication. But the truth is, what women really need can’t be found at a pharmacy.
According to Dr. Kelly Brogan, antidepressants not only overpromise and underdeliver, but their use may permanently disable the body’s self-healing potential.
We need a new paradigm: The best way to heal the mind is to heal the whole body.
In this groundbreaking, science-based and holistic approach, Dr. Brogan shatters the mythology conventional medicine has built around the causes and treatment of depression. Based on her expert interpretation of published studies, combined with years of clinical experience, Dr. Brogan illuminates the true cause of depression—and inflammation is at the root.
A Mind of Your Own offers a realistic action plan that women can use to heal their bodies, alleviate inflammation, and feel like themselves again without a single prescription.
Bold, brave, and revolutionary, A Mind of Your Own takes readers on a journey of self-empowerment for radical transformation that goes far beyond symptom relief – into true healing.
